A Beautifully Proportioned Charles I Oak Chest
An unusually small chest, the single piece lid which retains the original iron pin hinges, has run-moulded edges to the front and back with chip-carved decoration to each end.
The front is formed from two panels, set within a run-moulded frame. The back and bottom are formed from single oak boards, as are the ends, although these have shaped cutaway “V”s at the bottom to form a foot.
A delightfully small chest of great colour and surface, standing well up on its original legs.
English, circa 1630.
Width 32 inches, depth 12 inches, height 22 inches.
